Comics writer and Comics Interview publisher David Anthony Kraft has passed away after a battle with COVID related pneumonia. His passing was announced on Facebook by his wife Jennifer Bush-Kraft.
Kraft was born in 1952 and is best known for his Marvel writing in the 70s – especially his run on The Defenders which included “The Scorpio Saga.” Kraft was part of a group of writers known for writing “relevant” stories, as they called it then, and he’s definitely one of the reasons I was a Marvel Fan all the way back then. He also had a notable run on She Hulk.
Kraft went on to edit Comics Interview magazine and founding specialty science fiction publisher Fictioneer Books. Comics Interview ran for 150 issues from 1983 to 1995 and it’s a priceless resource of comics history.
Kraft had many friends in the industry and kept up a lively correspondence on his FB page. His passing was mourned on social media.

David Anthony Kraft passed away.
Outside of her origin issue, he wrote all of She-Hulk’s first run, THE SAVAGE SHE-HULK. Along w/ artists Vosburg, Stone & Springer, that was his series. If, like me, you love this character, it was David Anthony Kraft who helped bring her to life. pic.twitter.com/Ksoklek3CK— Dan Slott (@DanSlott) May 20, 2021

From George Pérez: I am deeply saddened to learn that David Anthony Kraft just passed away. Along with Bill Mantlo, Dave was one of my earliest collaborators and a generous champion when I was just breaking into the comics business. Something maybe a lot of folks don’t know is that #DavidAnthonyKraft discovered Brian and gave him his very first comics assignment with CYCOPS. The man had a great eye for talent… https://t.co/6Sgc2E8F1C
